Baltimork Corviks vs. Arnafell Raiders, League Game - Blood Bowl AAR

I had a scheduled league match against John and his Norse. I'd never played Norse before, and John's team seemed to be rather simple - Linemen with Block and a Yhetee.

The teams set up, with the Raiders receiving.

The Raiders started strong, knocking down a number of Black Orcs.

The Corviks front line stands up, looking to cover the Raider's Big Guy.

The scrum shifted around. The Orcs seemed bewildered by the Norse, constantly falling on their faces.

Worried about the Yhetee's claws, the Corviks seemed to overmark the beast. But the Raiders fought back while moving the ball up the pitch.

Still on the defensive, the Corviks continued to target the Yhetee.

The Raider's ball carrying hound shifted away, looking for an open lane.

But the quick-footed Orc Thrower dodged past some Norse defenders to get in the way.

Of course, the Raiders responsed by brushing aside the Thrower, moving the ball closer to the end zone.

Desperate to stop the Radiers' advance, two Blitzers broke away to try and bust the Norse Lineman and grab the ball. Unfortunately, they only managed to push the hound back a square.

Using local numerical superiority, the Raiders blasted the Corviks' defense apart, and ran the ball in for a point.

The teams reset, with the Raiders kicking.

But the Raiders got a Perfect Defence, shifting their lines and leaving the Black Orcs high and dry in the middle of the line of scrimmage.

The Raiders managed to take out a Lineorc, pushing into the Orc line.

The Coviks made a mad dash for the end zone, sending out a lone Blitzer.

But the Blitzer was knocked down, and the ball was send flying.

Knowing that they weren't going to get the ball again, the Corviks used the remaining Lineorc to foul the Yhetee, managing to cause a casualty and removing the Big Guy from the game.

With the first half over, the teams reset with the Raiders kicking. Thanks to their deep bench, the Raiders had a full team on the field, while the Corviks were down a player. A rock from the crowd stunned the Orc Blitzer on the line of scrimmage.

The Corviks pushed into the Raiders half of the pitch, as the Thrower and covering players moved for the ball.

But the Raiders striked back, knocking out a Black Orc.

Having been beaten up for a better part of the match, the Corviks pulled back to form an extended cage, hoping to grind up the pitch.

The Raiders shifted their positions to cover the possible approaches of the Orcs' cage.

The cage went up to the side of the pitch.

The Raiders continued to shift, while knocking out another Orc Blitzer.

Now the Corviks were in trouble. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were forced into moving forward, hoping to get as close to the end zone as possible.

The Raiders busted the cage open, but were unwilling to go after the ball carrier just yet.

The cage reformed, with the Orcs hoping a bad dice roll from the Raider might come up at some point.

But the cage was deformed again as the Raiders continued their attack.

Desperate to get some movement, the Orc Thrower tried getting the ball to the Orc Blitzer on the other side of the pitch. But interference from the covering Norse Lineman resulted in a dropped ball.

Not eager to retrieve the ball, the Norse continued to beat up the Orcs.

The Corviks retrieved the ball, but realized they weren't going to make it to the end zone.

Seeing hesitation on the Orcs side, the Norse waded into the Orcs.

Hoping to conserve their players, the Orcs fell back to the roaring boos of the crowd.

And the Norse end the game after a final block, winning the game 1-0.

That was a rough game for the Corviks. John's dice were on fire throughout the match, and his positioning meant that I was constantly facing 2 dice blocks from his Linemen. Luckily, the only injured player was a Lineorc who suffered -1 to his MA (making him decent Dirty Player material). The new Black Orc managed to pick up Block thanks to MVP, and I hired a new Lineorc to fill the spot for the next game.

Baltimork Corviks vs. Lustrian Hooters, League Game - Blood Bowl AAR

With a couple coaches dropping from the league, there's been some reshuffling of schedules. Shawn and his Amazons needed an opponent for his scheduled game, so I took him up for my optional.

I won the toss and elected to receive the ball for the first half.

But the Hooters got a Blitz on the kick-off table. While they shifted forward, a Linewoman missed his dodge roll and fell.

The Corviks put a few good punches in - knocking out an Amazon - and the thrower retrieved the ball and holed up in a partial cage.

The Amazons tried moving about, but another failed dodge roll against a Black Orc left the team flatfooted.

The cage began to move its way up the field.

The Hooters looked to slow down the Orcs, throwing players in the way of the cage and trying to break it.

But the Corviks pushed back, content to let the cage sit for a turn if it meant a chance to beat face.

The Amazons rushed in again, trying to reach the ball carrier.

But the cage finally managed to break free.

With a partially open cage, the Amazons managed to get a couple players in the scrum.

While the Orcs managed to bust the defending Amazons, a failed hand off between the Thrower and Blitzer meant an early turnover.

Suddenly, the Amazons were swarming around the ball. A failed blitz left the Amazon Thrower on the ground (thank goodness for blodging Orc Throwers!).

The Orcs tried breaking down Amazon's defense.

The Hooters kept the presser up, unable to get the ball, but staying on top of the Orcs.

Suddenly, the hand off worked, and an Orc Blitzer broke out of the mess.

Of course, he was quickly sent down to the ground. A failed pickup from the Amazons left the ball free on the pitch.

That ball was snapped up after a blitz, and a quick pass later saw a lucky Lineorc bring the ball in for a touchdown.

The teams reset for the (sans one Black Orc that was knocked out earlier), and the ball was kicked off.

After the break - and some roughly applied smelling salts - the Corviks kicked. The ball bounced off the field. An Amazon Blitzer on the far side of the field was given the ball.

The Hooters made a good showing, shoving the Orc line back and the ball up the pitch.

A few Corviks moved to intercept the ball carrier - knocking out two Amazons - until a Black Orc failed his block and went down.

The Amazons continued their drive up the field.

But a sideswipe from an Orc takes out the Unicorn, leaving the remaining Amazon Blitzer open. The Amazons, realizing that trying to get past the Orc line was a bad idea, tried a different approach. The Amazons, realizing that trying to get past the Orc line was a bad idea, tried a different if unsuccessful approach. After causing a casualty against a Black Orc (which I wasted my Apothecary on, for reasons later revealed), a long pass to a linewoman out in the open, who managed to catch the ball.

Unfortunately, the lone Amazon was surrounded and beaten to the dirt. Other Orcs moved in to get the cage ready.

Not wanting to leave the orcs unopposed, the Amazons moved in.

But the Corviks managed to get a cage together and started moving up the pitch.

Again, the Hooters had to try and break the cage, but were unable to do so.

And the Corviks managed to get one of their Blitzers free, sprinting up the pitch.

An Amazon caught the Orc, but only managed to shove him back a pace. Another Amazon tried getting up the field, but tripped, fell, and hurt herself.

In the next turn, the marking Amazon was pushed aside, and the Corviks scored another touchdown.

The team set up, and the Corviks kicked.

Deciding that revenge was the main goal, the Hooters managed to knock down, injure, and kill a Black Orc (whose result I had to take, thanks to the earlier wasted Apothecary). A failed pass ended the turn.

Unhappy, the Corviks pushed back.

The two teams scrambled for possession of the ball as the Hooters hoped to get a point on the board.

Unfortunately, the game ended before that could happen.

With that, the Corviks won, 2-0. It was a strategic victory to Shawn, however, thanks to the death of my Black Orc. I was forced to spend my winnings from the match on buying a replacement player, which further hindered my team development. I'm just hoping that my next game (against Norse) won't rock the boat too much!
